I've always been someone who cares about what people think of me, so being able to fill those patches of myself with confidence is a never ending mission. However, with thanks to greatly loved hobbies and the right people pushing me I am headed in the right direction.
With that said, popularity comes in to mind. Now, this is something I have never really considered myself to be, but then I have never really considered what popularity truly means. Is it posting a selfie online dressed a certain way and then getting seventy plus likes? Is it making rude comments to an individual to make yourself look big in front of your friends? Or perhaps its doing specific things to make yourself noticed? These are just a few that I considered.
Personally, I think popularity to be something more do-able. It isn't about making yourself known, dressing a particular way or being in the "right" friend group. It's about being true to yourself. I know that sounds silly, but when you think about it, what is acting up going to do? You're going to get noticed for all the wrong reasons. It's about being with the people who make you feel like you can be yourself. People who make you feel loved and as though you belong. It's so much harder to put up a front and hide behind something than it is to just relax and be you. We all have personal boundaries. Things we feel we could never achieve and things we would love to do, but for some reason can't.
It's time that we all begin accepting who we are because being yourself is worth so much.
I learnt this through being given incredible opportunities just for being myself and trying my best.
Stay true.
