Life is full of second chances. It takes the right people to provide us with them and it takes us as individuals to persevere and push on.
Throughout life, we naturally compare ourselves to others. This can be through looks, personality, jobs etc. and for a lot of us it takes time to actually sit back and realise that although we need to focus on the future, we also need to start living in the now. Most importantly, we need to start accepting ourselves and who we are.
On a daily basis we meet people who are different to us, yet we share common interests with them. Over time, if we take up hobbies for example, we start to see these people regularly and we learn that there are people who are better or worse at certain things. In any industry, any subject, any skill, there is always people who are at different stages. The only way we can move on to the next stage is by powering through and improving. This goes for any situation in life. For example, when you start a new job, you tend to start at the bottom and work your way up depending on how skilled and experienced you are in that field. On the other hand, if you make a friend and for some reason that friendship doesn't work out, that provides you with the knowledge of how to handle other friendships so that they don't end in the same way.
I think it's challenging for a lot people to discuss their backgrounds if there was times of hardship and trouble. Stories are often displayed on the news about grown adults or young people who had a history of alcoholism or drug abuse and how they are now doing so much better for themselves. This tends to be because they had family and friends encouraging them that they could get through it and get the help they needed. I imagine that this also took a lot of self belief and perseverance. People that use these tools correctly are those that I admire. What's more incredible than achieving a goal you thought you could never reach?
Individuals that have a history that is now unfortunately catching up on them in later life must find it tough. When looking at the way things play out, they do so because of the source who had control. As young people who aren't quite adults, there are certain limitations to our power. We can't do everything we want to do because we have a parent or carer who is (and quite rightly so) in control. Therefore, there are certain decisions that we can't make on our own. When looking back on the past, these individuals may feel that if they were the parent they would have made different decisions so that life would be a lot easier now. However, we all have different opinions and I guess in a sense our parents do tend to know what's best. It's rather crazy to think that small decisions justify our lives as a whole. I guess looking back, we can sometimes see that these choices weren't the best and all we can do now is try our best to change that.
We can all do anything we set our minds to, regardless of how capable we may feel. We need to use our voices more and speak about how we feel.
Self-belief, determination and hard work are vital in getting us anywhere in life. We just need to act on these and try our best because that's all anyone can ever ask.
No-one is a failure, we just can't all be good at everything. This doesn't make us any less of a person, it just highlights our qualities, the good and perhaps the not so good.
