Friends are so important and recent weeks have shown me how important they really are.
I've found myself in a few situations recently where I've needed guidance and support, to be told that my attitude towards certain things is correct and honestly, I've just needed a hug.
Certain people always spring to mind for everyone I'm sure, when it comes to needing or wanting that particular friend for that particular thing. I know this is certainly true for me. I have specific friends I will go to when I need specific advice. The friend who tells me straight up how it is, the friend who knows me inside out and will support me through my own decisions, but never shy away from telling me if they think I'm wrong, the friend who won't leave until they've made me laugh - this list is endless!
I am so incredibly grateful to the beautiful friends of mine for making me feel better, letting me by myself and for never being reluctant to tell me when I'm being stupid.
Often we can find ourselves in situations where rather than wait to tell our best friend, we go straight to another friend that is right in front of us because they're there and you need to talk about something right in that moment.
This happened for me last week. I had a tough couple of days and due to having confided in this friend about the same situation before, I knew I had to talk to her. She took me for coffee, insisted on paying, sat me down and gave me some much needed advice. I left the conversation feeling so much happier, much more aware of what I wanted for myself and with some reminders of certain things that have happened in my past which I had forgotten about, but yet were a crucial part of why I'm the person that I am today.
This week, I had an unexpected chat with my beautiful best friend - I say unexpected, but then we usually tell each other everything and anything so I suppose it wasn't really unexpected. We had a massive heart to heart, which ended up with both of us crying simply because we were each going through stuff that was making us over-emotional, but also because we care about each other so much it was hard having to hear the other say that for lack of a better term, "I feel a bit broken".
This is why the right friends are so important because they help to mend the parts of ourselves that feel a bit damaged and worn. They help to build on the parts of ourselves that we feel confident and positive about. They somehow make everything suddenly seem ok again.
To the friend who bought me coffee and let me ramble for hours, thank you! You are a gorgeous person inside and out. You always fill me with confidence on the days when I have none and you never fail to make me laugh. Please though, know your worth because you truly do deserve the world!
To the friend I had the unexpected chat with, thank you! Thank you for always being my best friend and for always sticking by my side. I would truly be lost without you in my life. Thank you for always giving me the best advice and supporting me so I can get what I want without getting hurt in the process. I admire you so much for your talent, zest for life and kindness. You have the hugest heart, but somehow often forget about yourself because you put everyone else first. Please never forget to make room and time in your huge heart for you.
Having such in-depth conversations with these two amazing ladies I am so fortunate to call my friends really made me realise how much harder life could be if they, or any of my friends for that matter, weren't around.
I am so thankful to the incredible friends I am blessed to have in my life. Without them I don't know who I'd be or where I'd be.
Here's to friendship, no matter what kind and to never taking it for granted because life is so much more worthwhile with the right people in it.
