This weekend I convinced Scott to go to Costa with me and try their new Christmas menu. I consider myself a Costa connoisseur. I'm an ultimate fan, but trialling their full menu and giving it a rating was something I had never considered until I saw someone doing it online. I thought it was a genius idea and not only something a Costa lover would do, but also someone who needs a bit of excitement right now given the rubbish 2020 we are having!
Here is the 2020 Costa Christmas menu and our ratings out of 10:
First up, we tried the after eight hot chocolate. Neither of us like mint chocolate so we had already set ourselves up to not like this one. However, the challenge was to trial all of the new festive drinks, so we had to give it go and we were SO HAPPY that we did! Out of all three drinks, this one was by far THE BEST! The mint wasn't overpowering at all and was perfectly blended with the chocolate. Of course, the perk of each of the new drinks is that they come with a chocolate matching to the flavour of the drink, although in the case of this one, I couldn't bring myself to eat the actual after eight - that would have been a step too far for someone who isn't a mint chocolate lover!
Next up we tried the purple one latte. I was quite excited for this because the purple one is definitely one of my favourites in the quality street tin! I was intrigued to see how the flavour would work in a latte. It did work, but neither of us could really manage more than a couple of sips. Considering I thought that this one would be my favourite of the bunch, I was surprised that the after eight hot chocolate was still the front runner for me! I found the hazelnut a little bit overpowering and came to the conclusion that I much prefer the purple one as a chocolate and not in a drink. Of course, I did eat the chocolate that came with this one!
Our ratings: Scott - 7/10 Me - 7/10
The last drink we had to try was the Terry's Chocolate Orange hot chocolate. This drink was on Costa's Christmas menu last year, but I can't remember whether or not I tried it. I LOVE a chocolate orange and so does Scott, but we were both surprisingly a little bit disappointed with the hot chocolate version. I could taste more orange than chocolate and I found this a little bit sickly. I haven't been put off trying this drink again, but it definitely won't be my go to order for the rest of the festive season!
Our ratings: Scott - 6/10 Me - 6/10
Of course no Costa Christmas menu trial would be complete without trying some of the food, so we decided to give the festive pork and apple sausage roll a try and it did not disappoint! It was absolutely delicious and even had a star on top of it! All there is to say for this one is yum, yum, yum!
Our ratings: Scott - 8/10 Me - 9/10
Overall, Scott and I were shocked with which items off the Christmas menu we favoured over the others. I did drag Scott in to join me for this (although he didn't take much convincing), but I can definitely say that I am so glad we did it! Why I've never thought to do this before, I don't know. I strongly recommend everyone goes to Costa all year round, but especially this Christmas to check out their 2020 menu and maybe even trial all of it like we did! After all, with no festive events in the diaries this year, what else is there to do?
I for one will certainly make sure I squeeze in another visit before Christmas, but this time to get my all time Christmas favourite - a gingerbread latte!
Massive shout out to the Costa store in Whitstable who are always so quick with their orders, but who also changed all of our small drinks to mediums (even though we couldn't finish them)! Thank you!
Go to Costa this Christmas. You know you want to.
